I recently had someone call me about classical music programming and let me know that they wanted to know when Mahler was being performed, because they “couldn’t stand Mahler.”  Of course I found this deeply sacrilegious, and was personally offended.  I told them when Mahler was being performed, then followed that statement with “you know, even if you hate Mahler *shudder*, you should check out the Adagietto from his Fifth Symphony, because it’s the most beautiful piece ever written.”  I sent her an email link with the video above, and an “I hope you enjoy this.”  The video is performed by the Chicago Symphony (my personal favorite), and conducted by Sir George Solti.

I hope this piece changes the minds of all the Mahler haters out there.
