This song is great for so many reasons.  Jack White is a genius.  I think he must just press “record” on his tape setup, and then record an album on the fly.  That’s how it seems, at least.  I like him in all his forms: White Stripes, Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, and solo.  This song has a certain appeal to me  – it’s killer! The instrumentation is super interesting – and nothing like his lo-fi sounds of bands past.  Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass clarinet…it’s sparse with an interesting texture to the sound.

With extreme lyrics like “I want love to…stick a knife inside me…, murder my own mother…, change my friends to enemies…” juxtaposed against a simple melody and acoustic sound, Jack White has created intrigue, yet again.
